I went Christmas shopping with my cousins this past weekend. At 9:45 we went to the Olive Garden. The waitress was telling us how busy it had been. She had a table (room) of 30 people that left her a $5 tip (that she had to share with 2 other people). They had gotten their meals and dessert for free. The bill had been $235 before dessert. The kitchen had run out of chicken and it took 30 minutes to get their meal after they ran out. I felt bad for her and gave her an extra $50 tip to cover the 20% that she should have gotten from the big party. I told her that there were still good people in the world and I wanted her to get her tip. She cried, hugged me, said how much it would help her and told me Merry Christmas several times. It was a true blessing to us both!

Every couple of months my son and I drop a gift at a neighborly ladies porch steps. The gift varies, a coffee mug with hot cocoa, a plant, a special blend coffee. My son has the challenge of sneaking it up to the porch and running away before we get noticed. We look forward to this random act. We take turns on figuring out what the gift will be.

I was in he drive-through line at Starbucks last week, and heard the car behind me order the same thing I did, one hot chocolate; so on a whim, when I got to the window I paid for her chocolate too. For just $3.00 I gave someone a pleasant pre-Christmas surprise!

An elderly couple were leaving Home Depot at the same time we were. They needed help carrying out the piece of plywood they purchased. As I sat in our truck waiting for my husband to load up our purchases, I noticed the man and the store employee going back into the store with his plywood. I jumped out and asked him if he needed help getting it home, and my husband loaded it into our truck and we followed them to their home. When we got there, the man thanked my husband and told him he would do something for someone else the next chance he got. My husband said "Perfect". Someday this act of kindness may come full circle and someone else will help us out when we need it.

Periodically, my food shopping at my local "Superstore", there will be an elderly woman/gentleman too short to reach something on a shelf, and I just happen to be in the right place at the right time. I hope someone will do the same for me when the time comes. Simple act, yet helpful.
