I was at church the Sunday before last, and my little old lady friend stuck something in my pocket in the midst of standing and sitting. I went to the store after church, reached in my pocket and found a $100 bill in it.

The other day, I was in the city. I was eating lunch in the park, and suddenly I saw a lady in need. She didn't look very healthy, or like she had much money. Since I hadn't started on my lunch yet, I gave it to her. And a hug. You never know when YOU might be in somebody's shoes like this. Always help.

Last night while walking in the frigid cold, my daughter Kim, came upon a dog. He was obviously old and lost. She brought him into our car to warm him. He seemed to appreciate the comfort. He had an ID tag which had a phone number for his microchip. After several attempts she finally got through to the company. It took quite a while. The chip company would only give the owners' name. The owner was not answering his phone and it was getting late. We went home and looked for the name in the phone book hoping he was listed. Imagine our surprise when we discovered the dog, "Buddy" belonged to a neighbor right across the street! All the time we lived here we had never met this man. We waited in the cold, at his door and he soon came up the walk with a leash in his hand. He was so happy we had found and taken care of his Buddy of 14 years! My daughter not only comforted an old dog, she was responsible for the happy reunion.

I was standing in line at the grocery checkout, self-serve lane. There was a young Father with his two sons behind me. One of the boys had grabbed a bag of candy, and I heard the dad say they could not afford to get that right now...he put the bag to the side...and started to check his items, while I was finishing packing mine up. I could tell they didn't have much, he didn't have many groceries either....so I grabbed the bag of candy, took it to the head check out person overseeing the self-serve isles and told her I wanted to buy it, as well as pay for all his groceries. She went up, checked him out, handed him the bag of candy...told him his groceries (including the bag of candy) had all been paid for, and wished him a Merry Christmas from me...I just smiled at them and walked away...
I had once been in his shoes...not enough money...had to pawn my wedding rings when my girls were little to get their Christmas presents out of layaway. Appreciating the free Christmas dinner dropped at my door from the local fire company...those were hard years. But we got through.
This was my way of trying to give back for those blessings then, and the blessings bestowed on me now....I will continue to do it every year.

Just before the storms hit I saw a man who was helping others, shivering in the cold . I asked if he would like a new coat he said yes. I went back to the car and gave it to him. He is still wearing it.I hope it keeps him warm all winter.
