I did not do this act of kindness. It was done for me.
I was going to a meeting alone in my car. A car ahead of me pulled into the parking lot and passed a wonderful parking space right near the building. As I got out of my car, I noticed him, shambling along, and I went to him and thanked him for passing up the perfect space for a total stranger. I later learned that he has a very debilitating handicap and cannot walk very fall without pain. Thank you for lettin me share this story. He has since become a close friend of mine and he truly lives a live of kindness to others.

I don't hope to offend anyone, but it seems that all or most of these posts are from people bragging about what they did for others. RANDOM acts of kindness implies to me a gift to someone without an expectation of ANY personal reward..including bragging rights!
Having said that I would like to share two quick stories: We have a Christmas tradition (since 1977) at our house where we put candy canes on the tree and each time we have a guest they take a cane off. It started because of someone crying at a convenience store. Another person was young and had nothing to offer that would help the lady, so she offered her a candy cane and a hug. The candy canes remind me that even if we can't solve another person's problems for them, we can offer a token of support and compassion, no matter how small and insignificant the token.
The second story happened just a few weeks ago.
A lady was cashing out at the store where I had just pumped gasoline. I was going to run an errand in another town where the gas was much cheaper, so I was only purchasing five dollars worth to get me there. When I pulled out my money to pay the clerk did not charge me for the gasoline because a lady standing beside me had overheard and discreetly paid for me!
As I was leaving a gentleman held the door for me and it reminded me how blessed I am to live where I live because in our little rural area people daily hold the door for one another male or female, young or old. It is a subtle reminder that people here are caring for each other in little ways everyday!

I would like to say you r right about bragging but to inspire with something you did to remind others is wonderful. i loved your stories!

Hey LLL....don't forget that many of users of this site are children. The subtleties of a true Random Act of Kindness may not quite be apparent to them yet.
I agree with MD in Texas, hopefully some of the acts shared here will inspire someone...even if it's just one person...to do something kind. That one act just might inspire another, and another....and maybe just make the world a little better place!

I am in 8th grade and I decided that I dont want presents this year. Instead, i am asking my family to donate scarfs, hats, gloves, fast food gift cards, etc. During December I am going to give bags containing these items to the homeless. Christmas isnt about presents and i think everyone should know that.
God bless, and Merry almost Christmas!

While at Toronto airport, waiting to fly back to Ca.,I was getting a snack. Next to me was a Catholic priest paying for his snack,he was counting out from a bunch of change in his hand, I called the counter person over and paid for all of the priest's snack and more.
He thanked me--that was sufficient for me. I am a Protestant, and a man.

that really cool that you don't care what religion he is I know that some people don't like people because they are a different religion.
11/5/2010 11:34:12 AM - touched x - UK
Heyya squeky i think that your right by what you said and it is wrong to judge others by the way they look or their religion. A while back there was a boy in my school and people used to call him gay all the time, i knew this was wrong because i went out with him but it still got to him. Soon after we had to break up because he moved to a different country,i was really sad. :(
Do you know that if you cal anyone gay in the uk and they take offence to it you could be jailed for 5 years!!!

I was in Hartford looking at some colleges with my daughter and there was a family begging at a corner. I heard someone say they were gonna call the police to make him stop begging. My daugter Cassidy and I stoppped driving to the college and told the family, a man, woman, and two little boys about 7 or 8, to hurry up and get in the van. The man looked confused as if this was a trick and then heard the sirens and got into the van. I drove them back to our house and my hsband, Dave, and son, Dylan, were confused and a little worried as the family in tattered clothing followed me and Cassidy into the house. I told them we were heping the family out through a rough time. Their names were Jon, Kristie, Sean, and Taylor. We let them stay in the guest house until they could regain control of their lives. I had the two boys, Sean and Taylor, enrolled in school, because education was very important. I also helped Kristie get tuition moneyso that she could go back to college. About 2-3 months later Jon finally got a job. We had grown attached the family and decided to let them live in the guest house permanently. They were extremely grateful and we have been best friends with them snce then and today!
